Knockout City: Season 4 Trailer
The fine folks at Hammer Creative approached us to team up again on EA’s Knockout City Season 4 trailer. The challenge this time was to create an engaging promo that told the story they were introducing without having any significant amount of the game developed yet. Hammer came up with a compelling solution and asked us to bring it to life. So we did while adding our own bit of flair to the mix.
Who says you can’t build something from nothing?!?

The Process
The team at Hammer Creative created a brilliant solution to use what limited assets were available to tell the “missing persons” story. We jumped in to help by designing the “suspect/evidence board.” Once we had a look nailed down to our “lightbox-meets-suspect-board-meets-X-Files” design, we brought it to life with zippy camera moves, an exciting edit, and a fast-moving dodge ball.
We used In-game assets and several hand-drawn conspiracy theory “notes” and sketches. We also animated the actual game 3D models of the ball after recreating the in-game look and feel.

I’m Zack Hiwiller, Lead Designer on Knockout City. I’m here to tell you that things are getting tense in Knockout City. First, we had an AI start taking over everything (Why can’t Perennial Labs just make AIs that, I dunno, help you find somewhere to go for lunch?), and now? You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. It’s better if you just… watch. Here, check it out in this trailer…
